Effect of Eye Patching in Rehabilitation of Hemispatial Neglect
Eye patching (EP; monocular or right hemifield) has been proposed to improve visuospatial attention to the ignored field in patients with hemispatial neglect. The aim of this paper is to review the literature on the effects of EP in hemispatial neglect after stroke in order to convey evidence-based recommendations to clinicians in stroke rehabilitation. Thirteen intervention studies were select...
متن کاملNew Insights from a Not-So-Neglected Field: Hemispatial Neglect
Hemispatial neglect remains one of the most remarkable syndromes investigated by behavioural neurologists. It occurs only after relatively focal (or at least asymmetric) brain damage, most commonly stroke, but is occasionally observed in asymmetric atrophy syndromes such as corticobasal syndrome or Posterior Cortical Atrophy due to Alzheimer’s Disease pathology. It is also sometimes associated ...
متن کاملPrism adaptation improves visual search in hemispatial neglect.
Visuomotor prism adaptation has been found to induce a lateral bias of spatial attention in chronic hemispatial neglect patients. Here, two experiments were conducted to explore the effects of 10 degrees prism adaptation on visual search tasks and standard visual inattention tests. Baselines and intervention effects were measured on separate days for all patients. The first experiment explored ...
متن کاملThe “eye sign” due to hemispatial neglect: A case report
Conjugate eye deviation is characterized by a sustained shift in horizontal gaze, usually toward the affected brain hemisphere. When detected on neuroimaging, it is called the "eye sign". It is classically associated with lesions involving the frontal eye fields, ipsilateral to the side of the deviation. Neglect may be conceptualized as a spatially addressed bias of the sensory events in explic...
متن کاملVirtual-grasping influences visual exploration in hemispatial neglect: A preliminary eye-tracking study
The present study aims at investigating dissociations between vision-for-action and vision-for-perception in hemispatial neglect patients through eye-tracking. Three patients and ten controls completed two gap-bisection tasks. While patients showed a rightward bias during the perceptual task, in the virtual-grasping task we have not found evidences for a similar deviation.
